Legend suggests that Gill did not see herself as an artist. Yet this now-legendary medium always intended her work to be appreciated, and participated in exhibitions in London’s East End and beyond. The essence of Gill’s practice lay in the acknowledgement of her spirit guide, Myrinerest, whose presence was channelled through the pale faces, swirling patterns and cryptic dialogue of Gill’s vast and enigmatic oeuvre.
